Our Ethos

At Fizzy Fish we aim to provide a home from home, safe, caring environment. Our classrooms are small and cosy, providing opportunity for lots of interaction between adults and children.

Children are valued, they are stimulated through a nurturing, rich learning environment. We cater to children’s interests and ensure we meet individual needs. We encourage families to share information about their children's development or learning and support those children with needs to receive coordinated support.

We provide play opportunity and activities that promote children’s Personal, Social, Emotional, Physical and Cognitive Development. Practitioners are familiar with, and understand the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, and how to implement this in the daily running of the settings.

Our Pre-Schools encourage independence and free thinking, the children choose and lead activities and are guided by practitioners to enhance learning and curiosity. Our aim is to build the foundations for a good future, to build self-esteem, confidence, independent skills and emotional stability ready for their transition to school.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum provides a structured yet flexible framework that supports the holistic development of children from birth to five years in England. It is designed around seven areas of learning, with three prime areas—communication and language, physical development, and personal, social and emotional development—forming the foundation for learning, and four specific areas—literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, and expressive arts and design—building on these core skills. The EYFS curriculum emphasises play-based, experiential learning, recognising that young children learn best through active exploration and meaningful interactions. Practitioners use ongoing observation and assessment to plan engaging experiences that reflect children’s interests and developmental stages, ensuring inclusive practice and promoting school readiness while nurturing curiosity, confidence, and independence.
We base our planning on a age appropriate book every 4 weeks, providing a meaningful and engaging structure for learning across the curriculum. By selecting a high-quality text such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, practitioners can design activities that link to all areas of development, including literacy, mathematics, communication and language, expressive arts, and understanding the world. A core text approach allows children to revisit and deepen their understanding of vocabulary, characters, settings, and key themes through storytelling, role play, creative activities, and continuous provision enhancements. Planning in this way also supports progression, as adults can introduce new skills and concepts while building on children’s interests and prior learning. Using a storybook as a central theme each month creates coherence, promotes a love of reading, and ensures learning is purposeful, creative, and developmentally appropriate.
