Typical Day
FIZZY FISHOur day starts at 7.30 am. Breakfast is available for those children who require it until 8.30. Children's pictures are display on the Who's Here Today board. Their peg in the cloakroom also displays their picture and name.
Snack time is at 10 am and 2.30 pm, with a hot freshly cooked lunch at 12 noon and a high tea at 4.15 pm. The children have access all day to their water containers and these are refreshed throughout the day. Each drinking container has the child's name on it for hygiene reasons. Picture placemats are put on tables at mealtimes so the children can see where they are sitting. We gather before meal times to hear a story or sing a few songs. The children have their favourites and often want to choose the story or songs. Our first group time of the day usually involves The Welcome Song and allows children to tell us their news. The rest of the time children are free to select the activities they wish to participate in. All our toy boxes are labelled with pictures and words for ease of identification. They are stored on shelves at child height. During this time adult led activities are also available. The children are invited to participate in the adult led activities, this then allows the adults to give each the amount of individual attention they need. The adults spend lots of time on the floor, asking the children opened questions and following the child's lead. This may be through speech for our older children and through understanding each child’s needs and wants through Makaton signing or understanding their form of communication. At Fizzy Fish we really take the lead from our younger children and their parents. Listening to and understanding our parents’ wants for their child and fully appreciating the routines that they have at home which we try to replicate. This requires a great deal of flexibility and professionalism from our staff who have to incorporate the individual needs of every child. Being small setting all staff get to know every child and spend time with each age group. We believe that the younger children and older children should spend time together as it can bring our very different positive traits in children. |
FIZZY FISH PRE-SCHOOL & FIZZY FISH @ PETER GLADWINAt our Pre-Schools we follow on with the EYFS and have a similar day the Nursery. A number of our children will have come from our nursery so we spend the last term before they move, taking them to the Pre-School on a regular basis to spend time with our Pre-School staff to ensure that their transition is as smooth and stress free as possible for both the children and their parents. Our day starts at 7.30am. Breakfast is available for those children who require it until 8.30. Children find their picture to display on the Who's Here Today board. Their peg in the cloakroom also displays their picture and name.
Snack and meal times are similar to our nursery. Again the children have access all day to waters and the children are able to fill their cups as needed at the water machine. Each cup has the child's name on it for ease of identification and hygiene. Picture placemats are put on tables at mealtimes so the children can see where they are sitting. A child helper helps lay the tables. We gather before meal times to hear a story or sing a few songs and we use this time to share stories from home, discuss how they feel today or the day's weather. The rest of the time children are free to select the activities they wish to participate in. All our toy boxes are labelled with pictures and words for ease of identification. They are stored on shelves at child height. During this time adult led activities are also available. The children are invited to participate in the adult led activities, this then allows the adults to give each child the amount of individual attention they need. The adults spend lots of time on the floor with the children, asking open ended questions and following the child's lead. We sometimes take the children out of the setting to soft play areas, parks, farms, the library and the beach. Small groups might also visit a shop to select ingredients for a cooking activity etc. |
