Protection in the Sun
We recognise the importance of keeping children protected from the sun and therefore follow the following NHS guidance:
Please see www.nhs.uk/Conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/Pages/safety-in-the-sun.aspx#close for further advice on sun protection and general safety.
- We encourage children to play in the shade, especially between 11am and 3pm, when the sun is at its strongest. We use a parasol or gazebo to allow the children the opportunity to play in the shade. Children also have a break from the outside from 12 noon to 1.30pm to allow them time for their lunch and a quiet period.
- Babies under six months are kept in the shade at all times
- We apply 50 factor suncream to the exposed areas of each child, even on cloudy or overcast days. Suncream is reapply throughout the day, especially if the child has been playing with water.
- Children are encourage to keep their clothing on to protect their shoulders and back of their necks. We have a supply of cotton clothes T-shirt with sleeves if needed.
- Children are asked to bring hats and sunglasses but we have a supply of hats if needed.
