Learning Journals created by Tapestry

As a setting we observe the children throughout their sessions with us and plan activities that help the children reach their next goal.  We use their interests to provide activities and experiences that they will be keen to participate in.  We welcome input from every parent about what their children likes and is doing outside the setting.  This can be via a verbal conversation or email.  This help us build a complete picture of each child.

Tapestry is used to create your child’s online learning journal.  Your key person will add at least one observation per week ,which will include a photograph.

When a child first starts at the setting, their key worker will spend a few sessions (around 20 hours) getting to know your child.  At the end of this period they will create a baseline assessment (Initial Learning and Development Summary). This gives us a starting point to compare future assessments against.  You will also have the opportunity to login in to Tapestry and create an All About Me entry.  Some of the information is duplicated on our Child Record form but it is a nice entry to have on Tapestry for prosperity.  We give you a copy of everything on Tapestry when your child leaves us.

Once a term your key worker will carry out an ECAT assessment (ECAT Assessment – term year).  This assesses your child’s communication skills and gives you and us an understanding of whether they are on target, above or below what is expected of a child of their age.  If they continue to be below target, we will then be able to discuss ways forward and start talking to outside agencies that would be able to assess and advise.

A yearly report (Ongoing Learning and Development Summary) will be written at the end of each academic year. These yearly reports are sometimes used at Parent’s Evening as a starting point for discussions.  This depends on when the reports are written and the date of the Parent’s Evening.

When a child reaches 2 years, we carry out a slightly longer assessment, which also involves a meeting with you.  This allows you an opportunity to raise any concerns that you have and agree/challenge our assessment.  Once the assessment is finalised, a copy is sent to your Health Visitor for their records.

As a user of Tapestry you are able to add comments to the entries we enter.  The ability to add comments to reports is usually given a time restriction and we will warn you by text of the final date.  After this date the reports are locked but they can be unlocked at your request.  Comments to observations can be added at any time.  You also have the ability to add your own observations taken at home; we will then be able to add our comments.  This is nice if your child attends a family event or does something special.  Photographs can be uploaded from cameras or you can use photographs on your tablet or phone.  We love seeing these entries.

Initially we set you up to receive an email when a new entry is released to you.  You are able to stop these emails if you’d prefer.  Your login details are as stated by you on the Parental Consent form and Tapestry will send you an email to allow you to choose a password of your choice.  You can change your login details whilst logged into Tapestry.

You are able to access Tapestry by your PC, laptop, tablet or smart phone. iOS and Android apps are available. The latter two will also require you to create a PIN as well. Parents Tutorials are available for the use of the apps below.  Either will be useful if you are going to assess Tapestry on your PC or laptop.

You can have as many logins set up, as you want.  This enables both parents’ access and any other relatives you may want to name.  This is partially useful for relatives who don’t live close by.

If you need any further help on using Tapestry, please don’t hesitate in contacting us.
