Covid-19 Update 24 February 2022
From 24 February, the Government is making some changes in relation to Covid-19, including the removal of some of the legal requirements which are replaced with guidance and safer behaviours.
Throughout the last two years, we have followed advice from the government and local authority and will continue to do so to ensure that the health and safety of our children, staff and Fizzy Fish families (some of whom are vulnerable) is at the forefront of our policy and procedure decisions.
Please note that there will be further guidance from 1 April 2022 and this is when we will review our policy again. In the meantime, all staff and child at Fizzy Fish will be asked to follow the policy and procedure below:
Whilst the legal requirement to self-isolate following a positive test has been removed, the Living With Covid guidance states that adults and children who test positive will need to stay at home and avoid contact with other people. After 5 days, those who have tested positive will be required to take a LFD, followed by another the next day. If both are negative, and the child or staff member does not have a temperature, they can safely return to Fizzy Fish. A continuing cough is expected in some cases and this will not prevent a child/member of staff from returning. Those who test positive should avoid contact with anyone in an at-risk group, including if they live in the same household. Although they cannot attend Fizzy Fish there is no legal requirement to self-isolate but everyone will be responsible for their child’s safer behaviours if they test positive for Covid-19. It is good public health practice to stay at home if you/your child are unwell with Covid-19 or any other respiratory illness.
Safer Behaviours
If a staff member or child shows symptoms, they will be asked to test for COVID-19 with a PCR. If this is positive, they will follow the guidance in the Living With Covid document - i.e. they will not attend Fizzy Fish and should avoid contact with other people.
If a child develops symptoms of Covid whilst at Fizzy Fish, we will contact the child’s parent/carer and they will be asked to collect their child and book a PCR test. If this is positive, they should follow the guidance above. If the result is negative they can return to Fizzy Fish.
Children and staff must continue to wash their hands on arrival at Fizzy Fish and will continue to follow advice to ‘Catch it, Bin it, Kill it’.
If your child is not well enough to participate in the day-to-day routine of the setting or requires one to one care, they should stay at home. The decision about whether a child is not well enough to attend Fizzy Fish, ultimately lies with the staff who will contact a parent if the child needs to be sent home.
In addition to the above, we will not administer Calpol. If a child needs Calpol or an alternative brand they will be classified as not well enough to attend. Please do not send your child in having given them Calpol as they will not be able to attend their session as Calpol could be masking a symptom of Covid.
